The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just received final approval from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to begin the final stage of implementing the eFiling initiative. The OMB approval will allow CPSC to publish the final rule to provide for full implementation of eFiling in 2025, as planned.

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) on Oct. 30 determined that no U.S. industry is materially injured or threatened with material injury by reason of imports of aluminum extrusions from China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam subject to the Department of Commerce’s 2024 AD/CVD preliminary determination. The Commission’s vote was 2-1, with the fourth ITC Commissioner not participating.

On Dec. 1, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will implement Phase VII of the Lacey Act for an expanded list of products that contain plant or wood products. The Lacey Act declaration requires the country where the plant/wood component was harvested and the genus/species of the plant product.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in a general notice published in the Federal Register Oct. 31 said individual licensed customs brokers may begin completing qualified continuing broker education courses on Jan. 1, 2025 – the compliance date – and, accordingly, 20 credits as the prorated number of required credit hours for the triennial period starting Feb. 1, 2024, and ending Jan. 31, 2027.
