Brett Tipple & Jay Acayan
Brett Tipple, PhD is the Chief Scientist of FloraTrace, Inc. where he
advances analytical chemistry approaches to verify the origin and
authenticity of natural materials.
Brett is a recognized as a substantive expert on isotope analysis and
geographic origin verification using isotopes and element ratios.
During his 20+year career, he has supported law enforcement in solving
cold cases, helped identify and repatriate US service members’ remains,
and combated mislabeling and claimed origin fraud in the private-sector.
He served as an advisor to a UN-sponsored program to empower commercial
producers of unique geographically-specific products (e.g., Basmati
rice) with leading-edge authentication methods. The origin tracing and
authentication methods he helped pioneer have met Daubert standard
challenges and are regularly utilized in legal proceedings throughout
the US and Europe, with a recent lawsuit he and FloraTrace supported,
winning over $48 million in relief for false-designation of origin.
Brett holds a BS from Indiana University, Bloomington and an MPhil
and PhD from Yale University. His credits include over 80 peer-reviewed
scientific publications.
