With the new U.S. tariffs on Mexico and Canada, many previously duty-free goods will now be subject to a 25% tariff - unless they can enter the US under the United States – Mexico – Canada Free Trade Agreement (USMCA / CUSMA / T-MEC). But qualifying for the FTA is often more complicated than it may seem, and importers will need to be sure that they have access to documentation and information to prove the goods qualify for USMCA treatment. This requires robust recordkeeping for the importer and suppliers in the event of validation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) or Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) or Servicio de Administracion Tributaria (SAT).
