Brett Tipple & Jay Acayan

Brett Tipple, PhD is the Chief Scientist of FloraTrace, Inc. where he advances analytical chemistry approaches to verify the origin and authenticity of natural materials.

Brett is a recognized as a substantive expert on isotope analysis and geographic origin verification using isotopes and element ratios. During his 20+year career, he has supported law enforcement in solving cold cases, helped identify and repatriate US service members’ remains, and combated mislabeling and claimed origin fraud in the private-sector. He served as an advisor to a UN-sponsored program to empower commercial producers of unique geographically-specific products (e.g., Basmati rice) with leading-edge authentication methods. The origin tracing and authentication methods he helped pioneer have met Daubert standard challenges and are regularly utilized in legal proceedings throughout the US and Europe, with a recent lawsuit he and FloraTrace supported, winning over $48 million in relief for false-designation of origin.

Brett holds a BS from Indiana University, Bloomington and an MPhil and PhD from Yale University. His credits include over 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
