On Dec. 1, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will implement Phase VII of the Lacey Act for an expanded list of products that contain plant or wood products. The Lacey Act declaration requires the country where the plant/wood component was harvested and the genus/species of the plant product.

CBFAA’s Transportation Counsel Venable LLP sent a supplemental request for clarification to the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Office of General Counsel (OGC) last month regarding the Detention and Demurrage rule (D&D). This request builds on the D&D clarification request the association sent to the OGC earlier this year.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in a general notice published in the Federal Register Oct. 31 said individual licensed customs brokers may begin completing qualified continuing broker education courses on Jan. 1, 2025 – the compliance date – and, accordingly, 20 credits as the prorated number of required credit hours for the triennial period starting Feb. 1, 2024, and ending Jan. 31, 2027.
