The White House in a May 10 Federal Register notice extended for one year the national emergency related to actions by the Syrian government. The national emergency was originally declared in a 2004 Executive Order which was subsequently modified by other executive orders over the years.
GL 22 authorizes activities in the specific economic sectors listed in the general license for northeast and northwest Syria.
It is important to note the last paragraph of the new
FAQ 1043, “What activities are authorized pursuant to Syria General License (GL) 22?” which states: “Additionally, U.S. and non-U.S. persons may need to obtain a license from the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) for the export or reexport or certain items subject to Export Administration Regulations (EAR). For further guidance regarding the exportation or reexportation of items to Syria, please contact BIS at (202) 482-4252.”
