The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has now launched Self-Registration for the eFiling Product Registry voluntary stage. This allows importers and customs brokers to participate in the program ahead of the mandatory eFiling date of July 1, 2026.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reminded the trade that merchandise that is the subject of a warehouse entry shall be sent to a bonded warehouse except for merchandise for which an immediate withdrawal is filed or merchandise which is designated for examination elsewhere than at the warehouse.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will expand the use of unannounced inspections of foreign facilities that produce food, medicines, and medical devices for the U.S. market. Currently, 90% of the foreign inspections are pre-announced.

The State Department Office of Marine Conservation has notified Congress that beginning June 1, 2025, wild-caught shrimp from Peru will be prohibited from import into the U.S. The ban will apply to wild-caught shrimp from Peru with a Date of Export of June 1, 2025, or thereafter.

NCBFAA in a May 7 letter to Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) Chairman Louis Sola asked the commission to promptly issue an industry advisory or other guidance underscoring that NVOCCs are not the party responsible for demurrage charges accrued because of tariff-related issues for imports.
