Headquartered in the Washington DC metro area, the NCBFAA represents more than 1,300 member companies with 110,000 employees in international trade - the nation's leading freight forwarders, customs brokers, ocean transportation intermediaries (OTIs), NVOCCs and air cargo agents, serving more than 250,000 importers and exporters. The Association’s members handle more than 97% of the entries for goods imported into the United States and are directly involved with the logistics of these goods. Further, members operating as OTIs are involved with approximately 80 to 85% of all exports from the United States.

  • NCBFAA Customs Committee Highlights HTS Update Related to Aluminum and Steel Tariffs

    The NCBFAA Customs Committee and Counsel of Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., updated our customs broker members regarding the HTS numbers that were removed from the original Customs and Border Protection (CBP) CSMS from June 3 announcing the application of tariffs for imports of aluminum and steel and their derivative products. However, those deleted aluminum and steel HTS numbers were included in the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Federal Register notice of June 12 which stated that household appliances with aluminum and steel content will be subject to Section 232 50% tariffs, effective 12:01 a.m. ET on June 23.

  • CBP Increases HTS Numbers per Entry Summary Line Starting June 28

    Jun 13, 2025
    Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on June 28 will deploy an enhancement in the ACE Production environment that will increase the number of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) numbers allowed per entry summary line to 16 HTS numbers from the current limit of eight HTS numbers.

 This session will introduce an industry-leading advancement in the handling of electronic Bills of Lading (eBLs) through open-source technology. Using a detailed case study, we will explore how an open-source eBL platform can significantly reduce resource waste associated with tracking and processing trade documents. This webinar will demonstrate how Open eBL’s innovative ecosystem enhances transparency, improves efficiency, and streamlines trade operations, all while maintaining security for digital trade documentation processing.

Vanessa Mbanefo, Managing Director, Open eBL: Vanessa Mbanefo, Managing Director, Open eBL: Vanessa is the Managing Director of the DSCI Open eBL initiative, a membership driven initiative launched by the Digital Supply Chain Institute (DSCI) to deliver an open-source, standards-based protocol for electronic bills of lading.

Vanessa provides overall operational and administrative leadership to the Open eBL initiative and builds trusted relationships between its stakeholders to encourage a climate of disciplined execution and to foster new ideas and strategies that enhance the Initiative’s overall success.

Prior to joining the Center for Global Enterprise (CGE) which manages the DSCI Open eBL initiative, Vanessa was an award-winning manager at Deloitte and served as a project delivery lead within its Enterprise Technology and Performance business unit where she oversaw delivery of the first Digital Cabinet analytics solution to one of the largest commercial capitals and subnational governments in sub-Saharan Africa.

Earlier in her career, Vanessa served as a business analyst at Accenture from 2013 to 2019 where she supported various enterprise solution implementations of ERP products, IT service management tools, service-oriented middleware solutions and other enterprise technologies.

Vanessa also serves as a program advisor to the CGE’s Africa Women Entrpreneurship Cooperative (AWEC) where she provides business and program advisory to entrepreneurs across a range of industries.Vanessa holds an MBA from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, a bachelor’s in computer engineering from Caritas University, Nigeria, and is a certified Scrum Master.

Kevin Chung, CTO, BlueX Trade: Kevin Chung is the CTO of BlueX, a cutting-edge startup merging supply chain and financial technologies. Leading the engineering and data teams, he drives innovation in AI-powered risk management for logistics financing.

Kevin is passionate about applying AI and LLM technologies across various domains. Outside work, he is an avid wine enthusiast and dedicated cyclist.

Jason Huang, Product Lead, BlueX Trade: As the Product Lead for BlueX Trade, Jason Huang has developed logistics and fintech products from inception to market, including Evergreen's GreenX and BlueX Pay's Pay-it-Later. His innovative solutions serve over 15,000 enterprises within the supply chain industry.
