Washington, DCThe National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America, Inc. (NCBFAA) announced today that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner W. Ralph Basham would keynote the Monday, September 18, luncheon during the 2006 NCBFAA Government Affairs Conference (GAC) at the Wyndham Washington, D.C. hotel.
Each year the NCBFAA sponsors a Government Affairs Conference, here in Washington, DC, to inform its members about the current issues and concerns affecting our profession that federal policymakers are addressing. We expect more than 100 business owners and senior industry executives to participate in this high-level program on September 18–19.
Since assuming his post in June, Commissioner Basham has met with several members of the NCBFAA management team but this will be his first opportunity to address the NCBFAA’s general membership. Although it is not yet confirmed what topics the Commissioner will discuss, we anticipate that he will touch on the importance of balancing ongoing security initiatives with the industry’s trade facilitation processes.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, the NCBFAA represents nearly 800 member companies with 100,000 employees in international trade - the nation's leading freight forwarders, customs brokers, ocean transportation intermediaries (OTIs), NVOCCs and air cargo agents, serving more than 250,000 importers and exporters. Established in 1897 in New York, NCBFAA is the effective national voice of the industry. Through its various committees, counsel and representatives, the Association maintains a close watch over legislative and regulatory issues that affect its members. It keeps them informed of these and other related issues through its weekly Monday Morning eBriefing, NCBFAA Quarterly Bulletin, and various meetings and conferences throughout the year.
