NCBFAA Honoring Industry Veteran, William Evans, During Upcoming Government Affairs Conference
Washington, DC: National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America, Inc., (NCBFAA) President Jeffrey Coppersmith is pleased to announce that the NCBFAA will honor long time colleague and Association volunteer, William Evans, during its upcoming Government Affairs Conference (GAC), September 18-20, in Washington, DC.
Mr. Evans spent more than 40 years in the freight forwarding and customs broker industry, the last 34 years as Senior Vice President with Barthco International Inc., headquartered in Philadelphia. He obtained his customs broker license in 1975 and spent much of his career arranging the transportation of high value shipments that ranged from money for corporate ransoms to the entire opening collection of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.
His initial involvement with the NCBFAA was serving on its Customs Committee Automation Sub-committee. Subsequent to that assignment, Mr. Evans held positions as Chair or Co-Chair of the Freight Forwarding Committee, Airfreight Committee, and the Security Committee. In the post 9/11 years, he represented NCBFAA on various committees. Mr. Evans participated in the C-TPAT organization work group with CBP, as well as the Maritime Security Act implementation group with DHS, and the TSA’s working groups for various air cargo security programs.
In July 2009, he opened his own firm, Evans Global Trade Consulting, with the goal of educating importers on the values of membership in C-TPAT, and exporters on the need to prepare Export Compliance programs as well as follow the regulations meant to control exports of items deemed critical to our nation’s security.
A U.S. Army veteran, he and his wife, Janet, have two grown children, a daughter and a son.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, the NCBFAA represents nearly 1,000 member companies with 100,000 employees in international trade - the nation's leading freight forwarders, customs brokers, ocean transportation intermediaries (OTIs), NVOCCs and air cargo agents, serving more than 250,000 importers and exporters. Established in 1897 in New York, NCBFAA is the effective national voice of the industry. Through its various committees, counsel and representatives, the Association maintains a close watch over legislative and regulatory issues that affect its members. It keeps them informed of these and other related issues through its weekly Monday Morning eBriefing, and various meetings and conferences throughout the year.
