Welcome to NEI's Continuing Education Program
Continuing education is critically important if our industry professionals are to remain viable partners with the importing and exporting communities.  The NCBFAA Educational Institute is the formal structure to offer continuing education and industry certification.  Below you will find continuing education instruction for event organizers and event participants. 

EVENT PARTICIPANTS 
How can I maintain my certification?
To maintain your certification, you must earn 20 continuing education points by:
• Attending an educational event (i.e. face-to-face or web-based educational program)
• Presenting at an educational event
• Actively serving on NCBFAA’s committees and task force groups
• Developing NCBFAA educational programs 

I have attended an event not approved by NEI for continuing education points. What do I need to do?
• Complete Form 100 for each event that you have attended.
• Submit Event program agenda including complete list of topics and timing of each session.
• Submit Event and session description.
• 
Your submission must be accompanied by an online payment transaction of $25 for each event. Breakout sessions during an event will be an additional $10 per session. An event held two or more times within a calendar year with the same agenda will be charged a one-time fee of $45. Please click here to be redirected to the payment form.

I have attended an event approved by NEI for continuing education points. What do I need to do?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The event organizer usually has an attendance sheet for CCS/CES participants to sign that they submit. If not, please submit proof of attendance such as a certificate, copy of your registration confirmation or letter/email from the event organizer to ei@ncbfaa.org .

How do I know if an event is approved by NEI for continuing education points?
Most event organizers inform attendees that CCS/CES credit has been approved or is in the process of being approved. In addition, approved events are listed in the Educational Calendar:

How can I approve an event for continuing education points?                                                                            

To approve an event for continuing education points, please submit the following:
• Form 100 for each event.

All programs are approved by subject matter experts specializing in the area of import or export depending on the program content.  Once the event is approved for CCS points, a confirmation email will be sent out to the event organizer.  After event is approved, an event organizer must post the NEI logo and a continuing education statement next to each approved event.

How often do I approve my events?
• Online Courses:  Approved once a year unless there is change in content or duration of the course. 
• Face-to-Face Meetings & Webinars:  Approved every time the event is offered to the public.

What do I need to do after any event?
Upon approval of an event, an event number is assigned and a 
Form 200 is sent to the requesting organization with the top portion filled out. Complete the form, and email it to ei@ncbfaa.org as an .xls attachment.  Please do not alter the format of the form.

What kind of events approved for CCS continuing education points?
These are programs that are import related topics directly benefiting Customs Brokers/Customs Import Specialist.  See CCS program syllabus for a list of relevant topics. 

What kind of events approved for CES continuing education points?
These are programs that are export related topics directly benefiting Freight Forwarders/Export Specialist.  See CES program syllabus for a list of relevant topics.  
 

NEI TRAINING LEVELS

• Entry Level: Individuals new to the Customs brokerage, OTI, Freight Forwarding, NVOCC, and Air Freight business and have limited understanding of its terminologies, principles, practices, and fundamental rules.
• Intermediate Level: Individuals passed the entry level and gained basic knowledge and experience in the industry. At this level, they are able to apply their knowledge and skills in familiar situations with some supervision and support from their experienced colleagues.
• Experienced Level: Individuals passed the intermediate level and have thorough knowledge and skills in their area of expertise. At this level, they are able to apply their skills in new or difficult situations.
• Expert Level: Individuals passed the experienced level and gained in-depth knowledge and expertise in Customs Brokerage, OTI/Freight Forwarding/NVOCC or Air Freight business. At this level, they are more involved in the company’s strategic planning and business management; and are aware of current regulations affecting the industry. They have limited or no involvement in the day-to-day operation of the company.
