- LAST CHANCE TO REGISTER: Hopes and Fears for NAFTA: A Three-Country Perspective
1 to 2 p.m. ET
The deadlines for a renegotiated NAFTA have come and gone. House Speaker Ryan had initially set a May 17 deadline for the negotiators so that NAFTA implementing legislation could be considered by the current Congress. The Mexican Presidential election is upon us taking place July 1 and the U.S. Congressional mid-terms take place in November.
Meanwhile, President Trump eliminated the exemptions for Mexico and Canada from the Section 232 national security tariffs on steel and aluminum as of June 1. Mexico and Canada have both challenged the imposition of these duties at the World Trade Organization and are imposing retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. What does this all mean for the future of NAFTA? Will we have a modernized NAFTA any time soon or trade wars? What do you tell your importing clients with all this uncertainty? How do you help them mitigate against the adverse consequences of tariffs?
Hear from customs lawyers from Mexico, Canada, the U.S. about the sticking points including the 232 tariffs. Register now!
