NCBFAA Webinar Helps Brokers Prepare for FSVP

Nearly 500 customs brokers attended the NCBFAA webinar on the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) rule that will begin May 30, 2017, for most food products. Panelists included Mike Lahar of A.N. Deringer; Domenic Veneziano, former FDA Import Operations Director; Kristen Spotz, with the Grocery Manufacturers Association and Stuart Schmidt of UPS Supply Chain Solutions.

The panelists discussed the requirements for customs brokers, who are responsible for entering the name, contact information and DUNS number of the FSVP importer, and also provided an overview of the requirements for the FSVP importer, who will be responsible for verifying the safety of the foreign food and its supplier. The presentations included practical considerations facing customs brokers, with an informative question-and-answer session that fleshed out many of the concerns and potential sticking points. The webinar slides and other information are available here.
