Ways & Means Committee Member Will Address GAC Chief Deputy Majority Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) has accepted our invitation to speak at the Tuesday Keynote Breakfast during the 2012 NCBFAA Government Affairs Conference, September 9-11 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Congressman Roskam represents the Sixth District of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives and is the fourth-ranking Republican leader in the House. In addition to being the party's chief deputy whip, Congressman Roskam is the co-chair of the Republican Israel Caucus and the U.S. Korea Working Group, dedicated to increasing pro-American export policies. In 2010, he was vice-chair of America Speaking Out, the organization that created the GOP's Pledge to America. He was born and raised in Glen Ellyn, IL, graduating from Glenbard West High School as a varsity athlete and school leader. After graduating from the University of Illinois and then the Illinois Institute of Technology Law School, the Congressman worked on Capitol Hill for his predecessor, Congressman Henry Hyde. Following that, he ran a non-profit scholarship program for disadvantaged youth in Chicago, Educational Assistance Ltd. Before his election to Congress in 2006, Congressman Roskam was a member of the Illinois Senate from 2000-2006, serving as the Republican Whip and Floor Leader. There he served alongside then-State Senator Barack Obama. He served in the Illinois House before that from 1993 to 1998. His work earned him awards from businesses, health care, and pro-family organizations and in 2005, Americans for Tax Reform named him a "Hero of the Taxpayer." Do you know that the 2012 GAC will convene in just 12 weeks? It is earlier this year and Congress will be in session for the whole week that we are there! Some schools will still be on summer break and families will be in Washington enjoying the early September weather. All of these factors mean hotel rooms in Washington DC will be at a premium. We expect our limited block of rooms to sell out early this year. If you did not attend last year, the Washington Hyatt Regency is a prime location, just a short walk to the Capital. All of you planning to attend the 2012 GAC please call the hotel today at (800) 233-1234 or (202) 737-1234 to make your room reservation and say you are attending the NCBFAA Government Affairs Conference to take advantage of our special negotiated room block rate of $239/night. You can always cancel later if you need to adjust your travel plans. With airfares at record highs it might also be a good idea to start looking and see if you can snap up a bargain. The GAC committee is hoping this year will have a record attendance and with your help, we will accomplish that goal. After making your reservations, please go the NCBFAA website and register for the GAC! |
